Best AI Comic Generators in 2026, Sorted by What You Get

AI comic generators hand back one of three things: one image, a page you build, or a whole chapter. Seven tools compared, with prices and free plans.

Published 7 min read

Illustration made with AI in the style of The Last Delivery to Yeongdo Light: a young courier in a navy raincoat holds a sealed envelope at the open door of a lighthouse at night, where a bearded keeper lifts a lantern

AI comic generators don't all make the same thing. Depending on the tool, you get one comic-style picture, a page you build panel by panel, or a whole chapter that reads like a story. So the best AI comic generator for you is the one that hands back the thing you actually want. If that's a story people can read start to finish, use FicPal.

Which AI comic generator to use

  • For a whole story from one idea, with the same characters on every page, use FicPal.
  • For one comic-style picture of a person, made from a photo, use bestphoto.ai.
  • To write the script and build each page yourself, start with Comistitch, whose free credits cover about three pages. If you already use ChatGPT or Gemini, try a page there first.
  • To play around for free with no account at all, use Perchance.

To see the difference, we gave one story idea to three of these tools: a courier who can't refuse a delivery brings a sealed letter to a lighthouse keeper who died ten years ago, and the keeper opens the door. FicPal and Perchance got that sentence. bestphoto.ai, which works from photos, got an AI-made portrait of the courier.

One courier story idea came back as one portrait, six unrelated pictures, or a chapter of 24 pages with the same courier on every page.

The 7 best AI comic generators in 2026

Comistitch, LlamaGen, ChatGPT and Gemini make you sign in before you see anything they draw, so the pictures for the first three come from each tool's own gallery. Gemini has no picture here.

Number 1

FicPal

Our pick

ficpal.com

The cover of The Last Delivery to Yeongdo Light, with a bearded lighthouse keeper holding a lantern in an open doorway while a young courier waits on the steps below, next to page 1 and page 24 of its first chapter

Best for a whole story: one idea becomes a cast, a cover and a lettered first chapter.

From the courier idea, FicPal wrote a six-chapter outline, drew a cover and ten reference images of its three main characters, and lettered a 24-page Chapter 1 in about nine minutes. It also made the calls the idea left open: the story moved to Korea's coast, and the courier became Yoon Seol, a young woman bound to her route by a red string on her wrist.

Above are the cover, page 1 and page 24, where the door opens before she can knock. Read all of Chapter 1.

Best for
A whole story from one idea
Pricing
First comic free, then credits

Pros

  • Plans the whole story and writes the dialogue
  • Draws each character from a reference image, so faces and outfits hold across the chapter
  • Pick one of 12 art styles, then fix any page with a sentence and retype speech and captions for free

Cons

  • A fix redraws rather than edits: you describe the change, or paint over the part to redo, and after your free fixes each one costs credits
  • Exporting a whole chapter, as a zip of PNG pages, needs the editor's desktop-only Pro level
  • New comics are public until you set them to unlisted or private, and each chapter after the first costs purchased credits
Number 2

bestphoto.ai

bestphoto.ai

Left, an AI-generated photo of a woman courier in a mustard raincoat holding a sealed envelope on a cliff path. Right, the same woman redrawn as a dark comic-book portrait with a lighthouse behind her and a BestPhoto.ai watermark across it

Best for one comic-style picture of a person, made from a photo.

bestphoto.ai is our sister product, and for comics it does one thing: you upload a photo, pick a look and get one comic-style image back. We gave it the AI-made courier portrait (left) and the noir look. About 15 seconds later it returned her redrawn in ink and halftone, keeping her face, the gray streak in her hair, the satchel, the sealed letter and the lighthouse behind her (right, the first result on the free tool).

Best for
A comic portrait of your lead
Pricing
2 free a day, plans from $14 a month

Pros

  • Two tries a day with no account
  • Many looks, from superhero and pop art to noir and manga

Cons

  • One image per photo, with no pages, panels or lettering
  • Free results are watermarked, and downloading needs an account
Number 3

Comistitch

comistitch.com

A five-panel comic page with speech bubbles: a packed stadium at night, a scoreboard announcing a World Cup final, and two people talking in a control room full of screens

Best for pages drawn from a script you write, one page at a time.

A page costs 30 credits and so does redrawing one, so the 100 free credits cover about three pages. Above: page 1 of a comic from Comistitch's gallery.

Best for
Pages from your own script
Pricing
100 free credits, then from $12.99 a month

Pros

  • Splits your script into scenes and draws the panels, in about 20 styles
  • Upload a reference photo for a character, or use one of its starter characters

Cons

  • Needs a Google or Discord sign-in to start
  • Free exports are watermarked, and the free plan has no commercial license
Number 4

LlamaGen

llamagen.ai

A black-and-white manga-style panel of a young astronaut at the controls of a spacecraft

Best for building a comic panel by panel around your own character.

Pick a style and LlamaGen draws your idea as a sequence of panels. Above: one panel from LlamaGen's gallery.

Best for
Panels around your own character
Pricing
Free check-in credits, then from $18 a month

Pros

  • Start from a prompt, a script or an image
  • Free credits from daily check-ins

Cons

  • Free results are watermarked
  • You can press Generate without an account, but the result stays hidden until you sign up
Number 5

ChatGPT

chatgpt.com

A four-panel cartoon strip in which a snail asks a car dealer to paint big letter S shapes on a red sports car

Best if you already use it: describe a page in plain words, then ask for changes.

To keep a character the same across pages, attach the same picture of them to every request. Above: an example strip from OpenAI's gallery, from March 2025.

Best for
One page at a time, in a chat
Pricing
Free with limits, then paid Go and Plus plans

Pros

  • Free with an account
  • Change a panel or a line of dialogue by asking

Cons

  • No published free image limit, and free accounts get 3 file uploads a day
  • You plan every page and keep the cast consistent yourself
Number 6

Gemini

gemini.google.com

Best for Google users: the same chat routine as ChatGPT, with a cheaper paid plan.

Free downloads are 1K resolution, or 2K on a paid plan.

Best for
One page at a time, in Google's apps
Pricing
Free with limits, then from $4.99 a month

Pros

  • Image making and editing on the free plan
  • Works with the Google account you already have

Cons

  • You must be signed in to make images
  • Free limits reset every 5 hours up to a weekly cap, with no published number
Number 7

Perchance

perchance.org

Six separate vintage comic-style pictures of a courier at a lighthouse, each showing a different man in a different cap and outfit, most of them carrying a parcel

Best for free, unlimited experiments with no account.

One click on the courier idea gave the six pictures above, unedited, most of them with a parcel instead of a letter. It's also the nearest free swap for AI Comic Factory, and there are others.

Best for
Quick free pictures
Pricing
Free, with ads

Pros

  • No account, no watermark, no stated limit
  • Six pictures a click in about 20 seconds

Cons

How to choose

Start with how much of the comic you want to make yourself. In a page builder or a chat, you describe each page, check it and redraw what's off. That's the right trade when you care about every panel. If you mostly want to read where your idea goes, a chapter tool does that work, and you give up choosing each page before it's drawn. On FicPal you fix pages afterward instead.

Then ask how the tool remembers your characters, because that's where long comics fall apart. FicPal draws a reference image for each look of each character before it draws any page, then draws every page from the references of the people on it. That's why the courier's face, hair streak and satchel hold across all 24 pages. In a builder or a chat you can do the same by giving every page the same reference.

Top left, a full-body reference image of a young woman courier in a long navy coat with a satchel, fingerless gloves, a red string on her wrist and a pale streak in her dark hair. The other three are comic pages of the same woman clocking in at an office, radioing from her van as the string on her wrist glows, and knocking at a lighthouse door.
Top left: one of the courier's four reference images. The rest: pages 2, 18 and 23 of Chapter 1, drawn from her references.

If you only want a picture, for a profile or to see your lead before you write, skip the comic tools and use bestphoto.ai. If your story is a webtoon or manhwa meant for phones, compare the tools on a phone screen before you commit.

On FicPal, the 80 credits you get at signup currently cover your first comic: the cast, the cover and Chapter 1, usually ready in about ten minutes. Each later chapter currently costs 50 purchased credits. Any signed-in reader can pay for the next one, and it then opens for everyone. The premise does most of the steering, so it helps to know what a strong one includes.

Questions people ask.

Is there a free AI comic generator with no sign-up?

Perchance needs no account and states no limit, but it makes single images with no panels or speech bubbles. bestphoto.ai's photo-to-comic tool makes two free images a day without an account, with a watermark. Every tool here that makes pages or chapters, FicPal included, asks you to sign in first.

Does AI Comic Factory still work?

The original AI Comic Factory still opens on Hugging Face, but its free backend was switched off at the end of October 2025. Out of the box it never finishes a page, and its settings now ask for your own paid API keys. The free tools in this list are the nearest swaps.

Can I use a FicPal comic commercially?

Don't count on it. You keep ownership of your premise and ideas, but FicPal's Terms only make the AI art available for use in the comics you create on FicPal, and they promise nothing about its legal status. Downloading pages from the editor doesn't change that. Of the AI tools here, Comistitch includes a commercial license on Elite, and on Starter and Pro when billed yearly.
