Make a comic

How it works

How to make a comic with AI, start to finish.

You describe the story. FicPal writes it, designs the cast, draws a cover and then draws Chapter 1 while you watch, in about 10 minutes. After that, everything is editable, mostly with plain sentences.

01As long as you like

Describe it.

Write what happens, who it's about and what they want, the way you'd tell a friend. A paragraph is plenty. Stuck on a blank box? Type one line and press Help me write it: you get a full premise back, and it's still yours to edit.

Pick a look from real FicPal comics (ink wash, romance manhwa, neon noir and more) or let the story choose. The default length is a series: a complete arc of 8 to 12 chapters with the ending planned up front. A short story is 3 to 5.

Nothing is charged until you press Make my comic, and your idea is kept if you need to sign in first.

An example idea

A second-year duelist secretly ghostwrites the empire's best-selling dueling memoirs. Then she draws, in the semi-final, the heir whose memoir she wrote, and he knows lines only the author could know.

It writes the whole story.

First comes the shape of the thing: a title, a logline, the cast, and every chapter outlined to the end, each one closing on a hook. Then Chapter 1 is scripted page by page: who's in each panel, where they stand, who they're looking at, and what they say.

Writing it all first is what keeps a long story coherent. Later chapters are already planned, so they pay off what Chapter 1 set up.

It casts and covers it.

The cover comes first and sets the look. Then every character gets a sheet: their face, build and clothes, plus a sheet for each costume change the story needs.

Every page is drawn with the sheets of the people on it. That's how a face on page 3 stays the same face in Chapter 7.

It draws Chapter 1 while you watch.

Pages land one by one in the drawing room, usually about 24 of them, out of order as they finish. You can watch, read along, or close the tab: it keeps drawing, and the comic waits in your Studio.

The rest of the chapters are written but not drawn yet. Each one is drawn when you unlock it, and once it is, it's there for every reader.

Then edit anything.

Nothing is final. Open the comic in your Studio and say what you want changed. The editor has three depths, and you can switch any time:

Simple
Fix a page with a sentence (“make them look at each other”), compare before and after, undo. Edit any line of dialogue, reorder pages, try a new cover.
Advanced
Direct one page panel by panel: the shot, the angle, who stands where and who looks at whom. Redraw one panel, not the whole page.
Pro
The whole chapter as a screenplay. Change the script, review what changed, and redraw only those pages.

Got a written story?

Paste a short story, a chapter or a whole book you wrote, or one in the public domain. FicPal splits it into chapters before you spend anything, keeps its dialogue and narration, and draws Chapter 1 while you watch the passage light up page by page.

Adapt a story

Your first comic is free. Then you pay for what gets drawn.

Credits are spent when FicPal draws something. Reading, text edits, reordering and undo are always free, failed work is refunded automatically, and credits never expire.

A whole 10-chapter series is about 530 credits: one new comic plus 9 chapters. The first 80 are on us, and the Sketchbook pack ($5) covers the rest.

What you own.

  • Your story is yours: the plot, the characters and the words you wrote.
  • New comics are public on FicPal so people can read them. Make any comic unlisted or private from your Studio.
  • You choose whether readers can see the idea you started from. It's on for new comics, and you can switch it off before or after.
The Terms, in full

What you can't make.

  • Any sexual content involving minors, real or fictional. No exceptions.
  • Sexual content about real, identifiable people.
  • Hate, harassment, doxxing, or instructions for real-world harm.
  • Someone else's comic, re-published. Fan stories in your own words are fine.
The content policy

Questions, answered.

Do I need to be able to draw or write?

No. A paragraph is enough, and one line works too: press Help me write it and FicPal turns it into a full premise you can edit before anything is drawn.

Why is only Chapter 1 drawn at first?

Drawing is the expensive part. The whole story is written up front, so every chapter exists as a script; Chapter 1 is drawn straight away and each later chapter is drawn when you (or a reader) unlock it, for 50 credits.

Can I leave while it draws?

Yes. A first comic takes about 10 minutes and keeps going if you close the tab. It waits for you in your Studio.

Will the characters look the same on every page?

That's what the character sheets are for. Every page is drawn with the sheets of the people in it, so faces, hair and clothes carry from page one to the last chapter. If a page drifts, fix it with a sentence.

Can I change the dialogue?

Yes, for free. On new comics the speech balloons are an editable layer on top of the art, so fixing a line never redraws the page.

What happens if something fails?

If a comic or a chapter doesn't finish, the credits go back to your balance automatically. Nothing is charged for work you didn't get.

Ready when you are.

One paragraph is enough. Your first comic is on us.
