The Best AI Comic Factory Alternatives in 2026

AI Comic Factory still opens, but without your own paid keys it won't finish a page. What each alternative keeps, and what it asks you to give up.

Published 6 min read

Illustration made with AI in the style of Bread for the Knight Who Failed to Kill Me: Ash the baker hands a warm loaf across the counter to the scarred knight Ser Aldris, with a tiny ember drake beside them

AI Comic Factory was the easy one. You typed one line into a free Hugging Face app, with no account, and got back a comic page with panels and speech bubbles. On October 17, 2026, we gave it this line: “A retired dragon opens a bakery in the village he once burned, and his first customer is the knight who failed to slay him.” Eighteen minutes later the panels were still empty.

No alternative gives you all three of those things at once: free, no account, and a page from one line. Each keeps one or two, so choose by the one you can live without.

What AI Comic Factory does today

The Hugging Face Space still loads and says Running. It took our line, drew empty panel frames with spinners and showed “Generating a new story..” with no error and no sign-in prompt.

The AI Comic Factory page marked Running, with the dragon line in the story box and two large empty panels showing loading circles
AI Comic Factory on October 17, 2026, still loading our line.

The cause is in its code. On October 30, 2025, the owner switched its defaults from free servers to two paid services that “will bill your own account”, and the next day archived the GitHub repository. Until you paste in your own keys, it won't finish a page.

Quick answer: what each alternative keeps

  • FicPal keeps the page and turns it into a whole chapter. You give up “no account”, and only your first comic is free.
  • bestphoto.ai keeps free and no account. You give up the line and the page: it turns a photo into one comic-style picture.
  • Perchance keeps free, no account and the one line. You give up the page: you get separate pictures that don't match.
  • Gemini and LlamaGen keep free and the line. You give up “no account”, and LlamaGen watermarks free results.
  • AI Comic Factory itself needs no account, but you give up free: it won't finish without your own paid keys.
Perchance and bestphoto.ai stay free with no account but hand back loose pictures. FicPal asks you to sign in and turns the dragon line into a lettered Chapter 1.

The 6 alternatives, ranked

Number 1

FicPal

Our pick

ficpal.com

The cover of Bread for the Knight Who Failed to Kill Me, a baker holding a tray of loaves out to a grey-haired woman knight, beside page 5, where the same scarred knight in a blue cloak fills the bakery doorway at dusk while the baker and a girl look up

The pick if you want the story to keep going after one line.

We pasted the dragon line into the Describe it box. About seven minutes later FicPal had planned a six-chapter story, drawn a cover and a reference image for each character look, and published Chapter 1 of Bread for the Knight Who Failed to Kill Me, 24 lettered pages. Above are the cover and page 5, where the knight walks in, unedited.

The AI made calls we never asked for: the dragon bakes in human form, the knight is a woman who doesn't recognize him and rents his room upstairs, and a baby dragon hides by the oven. Chapters 2 to 6 wait in the outline.

Best for
A story that keeps going
Pricing
First comic free on signup credits, then 50 purchased credits a chapter

Pros

  • One line becomes a cast, a cover and a lettered Chapter 1
  • Each page is drawn from reference images of the cast
  • Chapter 1 is usually ready in about ten minutes
  • Pick a style, then fix pages with a sentence

Cons

  • Needs a Google account
  • New comics are public until you set them to unlisted or private
  • Page fixes cost credits after your free ones, and exporting a whole chapter needs the editor's desktop-only Pro level
Number 2

bestphoto.ai

bestphoto.ai

Left, an AI-made photo of a fictional courier in a yellow jacket holding a sealed letter. Right, the same courier as a noir comic-book portrait with a tiled BestPhoto.ai watermark

One comic-style picture from a photo, never a page or a story.

bestphoto.ai is our sister product. The example above is from a different story: an AI-generated photo of a fictional courier, and the first free result in the noir look, watermarked as a visitor sees it.

Best for
A comic-style portrait or cover image
Pricing
2 free a day with no account, 20 credits at signup, plans from $14 a month

Pros

  • Kept the face, outfit and props from our photo
  • Classic looks: superhero, pop art, noir, vintage and manga

Cons

  • One image only: no panels, bubbles or pages
  • Starts from a photo, not a line
  • Free results are watermarked, and downloading needs an account
Number 3

Perchance

perchance.org

Perchance's AI Comic Generator with the dragon line typed in, above three separate vintage-comic pictures of a green dragon in an apron offering bread to a knight

The closest like-for-like: free, no account, and you type one line.

We typed the same line. About 30 seconds later it showed six separate pictures in a vintage comic look, each with a dragon handing food to a knight; the first three are above. Each one redraws both characters from scratch, so they won't line up into a page.

Best for
Free single pictures with no sign-up
Pricing
Free, with ads

Pros

  • No account, and the page promises no limits
  • Six pictures a click in about 30 seconds
  • No watermark

Cons

  • Separate pictures, not a page with panels
  • The dragon and the knight change from picture to picture
  • No speech bubbles or lettering
Number 4

Gemini

gemini.google.com

Free images in a chat, once you sign in with a Google account.

Signed out, Gemini told us it “can't create any for you at the moment”, so we have no result to show.

Best for
Trying ideas in a chat you already use
Pricing
Free with a Google account, AI Plus $4.99 a month

Pros

  • The free plan includes image generation

Cons

  • Won't draw anything while you're signed out
  • Google publishes no number for the free limit
Number 5

LlamaGen

llamagen.ai

A LlamaGen pop-up reading Your comic is almost ready, sign up to view it now, with Google, Microsoft and Apple sign-up buttons

An editor with bubble and font controls, behind a sign-up.

LlamaGen let us type a story and press Generate with no account, then showed the pop-up above instead of the comic. Its free credits come partly from daily check-ins.

Best for
Adjusting bubbles, fonts and captions yourself
Pricing
Free plan with check-in credits, Standard $18 a month

Pros

  • Bubble, font and caption controls in the editor

Cons

  • You must sign up to see your result
  • Free results are watermarked
Number 6

huggingface.co

The AI Comic Factory settings window, set to a custom Replicate model that will bill your own account, with an empty API token box

Paste your own keys into the settings above and it can run again, though we didn't try that.

Best for
Developers with their own API keys
Pricing
Free to open, then you pay Replicate and Groq directly

Pros

  • Open source, so you can host it yourself
  • Page layouts and speech bubbles built in

Cons

  • Never finished a page for us on its default settings
  • Needs paid keys from two separate services
  • Archived, so it gets no more updates

What each free path asks of you. Prices checked October 2026.

Start with whether you'll sign in, because that splits the list in two. If signing in is fine, FicPal turns one line into the most story. If it isn't, Perchance is the only one here that still draws from a line with no account, and you get pictures rather than a page.

If you pick FicPal, your premise does most of the steering, with the art style, length and language chosen beside it. Our guide to making a comic with AI shows what it needs to name before you paste it.

Questions people ask.

Is AI Comic Factory free?

Opening it is, and the page says a guest can make one comic. Since October 2025, though, it draws and writes through paid services billed to your own account, so without your own keys the page never finishes.

What happened to aicomicfactory.app?

It didn't respond when we tried it on October 17, 2026. The Hugging Face Space is the version that still opens.

Are comics I make on FicPal private?

Not by default. New comics are public on FicPal so people can read them, and you can switch any comic to unlisted or private in the editor, so write a premise you're happy to share until you do. On a public comic, any signed-in reader can also pay to open its next chapter, which then opens for every reader.
