“🌸 Café Beginnings & Cat Puns 🌸 The bell above the bakery door chimed softly as four very familiar voices overlapped in laughter. Marinette Dupain-Cheng sat at their usual corner table, one leg tucked under her and her phone abandoned beside a half-finished hot chocolate. Nino Lahiffe was beside her, leaned back in his chair with his cap tilted backward, telling an animated story with way too many hand gestures. Across from them, Alya Césaire had her laptop open but clearly wasn’t working, and Adrien Agreste sat next to her, smiling politely while sipping his latte like the human embodiment of sunshine. “You cannot convince me,” Nino said dramatically, “that putting pineapple on pizza isn’t a crime against humanity.” “It’s a bold culinary choice,” Adrien said thoughtfully. “Like fashion risks. Sometimes they pay off.” “They do not,” Marinette said, laughing. “Pineapple on pizza is the equivalent of wearing socks with sandals.” “Hey!” Nino protested. “That’s a comfort statement.” Alya snorted. “No, that’s a cry for help.” The four of them had been inseparable in some combination since childhood—though not always in this exact configuration. Marinette and Nino had met in kindergarten when she’d tripped over her shoelaces and he’d caught her before she face-planted into the playground gravel. He’d offered her his juice box and declared them best friends. They’d been a chaotic duo ever since. Alya and Adrien, on the other hand, had known each other since diapers. Their parents were friends, and baby photos of them in matching pajamas had been weaponized against them more times than either could count. Now, the two pairs had merged into one tight-knit group, meeting almost every afternoon at the bakery Marinette’s parents owned. Life was good. Except. Adrien Agreste had been in love with Marinette Dupain-Cheng for years. Not a casual crush. Not a “she’s cute” thing. A full-blown, life-ruining, heart-softening, brain-shutting-down kind of love. Everyone knew. Alya knew. Nino knew. Even random classmates who barely talked to him knew. The only person who didn’t know… Was Marinette. Adrien had tried. Once. Kind of. Accidentally. Sort of. But then Marinette had tripped over a chair, apologized to the chair, the floor, and the universe, and Adrien’s brain had shut off permanently. He tried again, but didn’t go through with it Cuz he was drenched with the truth that someone else is in her heart…….. Someone she daydreams about A mysterious someone whose name is the most precious secret she holds. So now he existed in a permanent state of “pining respectfully.” (I know this does not make any sense Let’s rewind, shall we?) A few months back…………. It all started with a dare Adrien and Alya we together in the mansion, homework scattered and forgotten. The ever adrenaline seeker of a girl had suggested playing truth or dare. Which is fun and all, until the sheltered sunshine child is dared to create a snapchat account. “Als, if my father finds out about this, I am as good as dead” Still, he went through with it and created a snapchat account under the username @ChatNoir as a joke. “You’re already dramatic. Might as well lean into it.” He’d rolled his eyes but done it anyway. Then one night, scrolling through story suggestions, he’d seen a post from @Ladybug — a sketch of a dress inspired by falling petals, with the caption: Ladybug: “Trying to design something soft but strong ” He’d paused. Scrolled back. Then replied: ChatNoir: “Soft but strong? Sounds like a secret superhero.” She’d replied within seconds: Ladybug: “Only on Tuesdays. The rest of the week I trip over air.” He had laughed out loud. And that was it. They started talking. Every day. She was funny. Warm. Kind. Creative. A little clumsy. A little insecure. A lot amazing. He didn’t know who she was. She didn’t know who he was. And somehow, that made everything easier. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Their conversations quickly became a daily ritual. Not scheduled. Not planned. Just… inevitable. ChatNoir: So be honest. On a scale of 1 to “I tripped over air today,” how clumsy are you? Ladybug: Rude. But accurate. I tripped over nothing yesterday. ChatNoir: Nothing is a powerful enemy. Ladybug: Clearly. It has a personal vendetta against me. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Ladybug: If you were a dessert, what would you be? ChatNoir: Easy. A crème brûlée. Hard shell, soft inside. Ladybug: That’s… unexpectedly deep. ChatNoir: I contain multitudes. Mostly sugar. Ladybug: There you go, you’ve ruined the moment 😒 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ChatNoir: Hypothetical question: If someone offered you unlimited pastries but you could never eat chocolate again, would you accept? Ladybug: Who hurt you? ChatNoir: Answer the question. Ladybug: Absolutely not. Chocolate is emotional support. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Sometimes the chats were silly. Sometimes soft. Sometimes so late at night they forgot the world existed. And slowly, quietly, without either of them noticing… Strangers started feeling a lot like home. 🌙✨ Somewhere between the bad puns, the late-night voice notes, and the way Chat Noir always knew exactly what to say when she felt small… Marinette realized something dangerous. She liked him. Not in a casual, “he’s funny” way. In a “my heart does that weird tight-flip thing when his name pops up on my screen” way. In a “I re-read his messages when I can’t sleep” way. In a “I smile at my phone like an idiot and my parents definitely notice” way. She didn’t know his face. She didn’t know his real name. She didn’t even know where he lived. But she knew the way he cared. She knew the way he listened. She knew the way he made her feel seen. And somehow… that was enough. Then one day, completely out of nowhere, the tone of their conversation changed. ChatNoir: Ladybug… can I ask you something? She paused, sensing the shift immediately. Ladybug: Of course. What’s up? There was a longer pause than usual. Then: ChatNoir: Have you ever been in love? Her heart jumped. Ladybug: Kinda……. Why do u ask? It still jumped when the bubble indicated that he’s typing ChatNoir: I think I have a crush. It still jumped, blooming with hope Ladybug: Oh. ChatNoir: Yeah. She’s one of my best friends. She’ like……… Cherry blossoms Then dropped. The words felt gentle. But they hit her like a punch. Ladybug : That’s… really specific. Why Cherry Blossoms? Adrien smiled softly at his phone. Chat Noir : Because cherry blossoms don’t bloom for long. They’re fragile, and soft, and beautiful, and they show up when you least expect them… but when they’re there, everything feels lighter. Her chest tightened. Her fingers hovered uselessly over the screen. One of his best friends. Not her. Still, she forced herself to smile at her phone. Because that’s what good friends did. Ladybug: That’s… really poetic, actually. I’m sure she’s lucky to be liked by you. And if you like her, then she must be really sweet! I’m happy for you Chat Chat Noir: You really think so? Ladybug: I do. And she meant it. Even as her heart cracked just a little. Even as the realization settled quietly in her chest: She had fallen for someone who was already in love with someone else. She stayed supportive. She listened. She encouraged. All while learning, slowly and painfully, how to smile through a heartbreak that no one else could see. 💔🌸”
