Wet Nurse to a Calamity

Synopsis

Liang Hua is a mortal widow indentured to the Pavilion of Tender Years, where immortal infants too dangerous for divine milk are fed by mortal wet nurses under brutal rules: never speak first, never name the child, never let the child name you. Her ward, Little Cloud, is the only surviving infant of a banished sky-god. At his four-month inspection, he breaks every expectation by saying Liang Hua's true name — a name she has hidden from everyone alive. To survive, Liang Hua must bargain with a sharp under-matron, falsify immortal records, and keep a calamity-born baby calm enough not to expose her. But the infant's hunger is not only for milk; he is learning secrets, loyalties, and names that should be impossible to know.
