Mother Sable's Fine Print

Rilla brings Kenzie to the Drowned Lamp, the only inn in the flood quarter, run by a blind, kind old woman named Mother Sable who feeds him, mends his coat, and asks too many gentle questions about his name. But it is Kenzie who discovers the loophole: he signed a receipt, and a receipt is a contract. When the Order of the Yellow Letter comes for him, Kenzie refuses the delivery out loud — and the summoning mark on his chest starts to loosen.
